Get into the festive spirit with these Orange Chocolate Chip Biscotti. Great to dunk into your coffee or give as gift!
Holidays come with a lot tradition. Some that we grew up with and some that changed with time. Whatever tradition your family might follow, one thing is for sure that we all love to celebrate and give our loved ones something special during this festive time.
When I first moved to the US, I didn’t know what gifts to give to my friends here. But back home for Diwali, we always gave our friends and family sweets, cookies and chocolates. I mean lots of other stuff too but these were always a part of our tradition. And so I thought I should follow the same tradition for the Holidays here as well. And what better than homemade edible gifts? I have always believed that there’s nothing quite like homemade gifts, the personal touch makes them really special.
Now I make tons of cookies to gift every year. Actually the first thing that I ever baked was a cookie and that’s why they hold a special place in my heart. It also doesn’t hurt that they are so delicious and easy to make at home. They also make the best gifts, I mean who can say no to homemade cookies? No one! One of my favorite cookies to eat and gift are biscotti. I think they are not only easy to make but also pair so well with my cup of Starbucks Coffee. I always need a crunchy cookie to dip in my coffee and biscotti seems to fit the bill perfectly. They are also festive and make cute gifts.
To make biscotti is easy, you don’t even need a stand mixer for it. Just mix everything together, form a dough, shape into a log and bake. Once the logs are baked, let them cool and then slice them and bake again till crisp. And that’s it! Enjoy them with your coffee and also pack them in cute little packets and gift them to your friends. I also dipped these orange chocolate chip biscotti in some white chocolate. That’s totally optional but makes them more festive!
These biscotti pair perfectly well with Starbucks Holiday Blend. With the days getting colder and colder, there cannot be anything more comforting than a cup of coffee and homemade biscotti. These will definitely make your festive season more merrier!
Method
Preheat oven to 350 F degrees. Line 2 baking sheets with parchment paper or silicone mat and set aside.
In a bowl whisk together all purpose flour, salt and baking powder. Set aside.
Melt the butter in the microwave. Set aside and let it cool down to room temperature. In a bowl whisk together melted cooled butter and sugar. Mix till well combined.
Add in vanilla extract, orange extract, orange zest and mix till combined.
Add in the eggs, one at a time, mixing after each addition.
Add in the flour mix in parts, mixing after each addition.
Fold in the semi-sweet chocolate chips and mix to form a dough.
Place the dough onto a well floured surface. Divide the dough into 4 equal parts. Knead a little till it’s all smooth.
Roll each part of the dough into logs and press the logs slightly so that they are around 2 inches wide.
Bake the logs at 350 F degrees for around 25 minutes. Take them out and let them cool down for around 20 minutes. In the meanwhile reduce the oven temperature to 325 F degrees. Once the logs have cooled down use a sharp serrated knife, to cut the log diagonally into ½ to ¾-inch-thick slices. Arrange all the slices in the tray and bake at 325 F degrees for 8 minutes. Take out the tray and flip the slices and bake for another 8 minutes on the opposite side.
Transfer the orange chocolate chip biscotti on a wire rack to cool completely. Once they have cooled down, you can dip them in white chocolate! (optional). Store in an airtight container and enjoy with your coffee.
* You can reduce the quantity of chocolate chips in the recipe if you want. I always add extra in my recipes since I can never have enough of chocolate!
